How to Get House Insurance

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Getting house insurance is easy to do. How? You may ask. Well it is a simple matter of contacting a local insurance agent and telling them what you need. In most cases a home insurance application can be taken over the phone. The agent will also come by to visibly inspect the house. Based upon that recommendation, you will either have to make repairs before the insurance policy will be issued or you will be issued one after the inspection. In all cases once the policy is issued and payment received, then your policy will be in force. Some other questions that will be asked are “are you in a flood plain?” and “Have you even had a claim for homeowners insurance?” These questions are for insurance purposes and may actually hike the price for an insurance policy. If you are in a flood zone, your insurance may be denied or a higher price will be quoted for your insurance. This is to keep insurance costs down. A higher risk will either mean no insurance or a sky high premium. The fact is that most insurance policies are not done in this fashion only risk.

What is Home Insurance?

What is home owners insurance? Home owners insurance is a policy meant to protect your home and replace it if there is a catastrophe. This policy has to be taken out carefully as there are many different types of home insurance. You can have home insurance that is on your home only, one that is just for the contents of your home or one that is both. Having this type of insurance is essential to rebuilding after a catastrophic event that causes you to lose your home and contents. There are many limitations and restrictions on the amount of home insurance that you can get for your particular home. These restrictions have to do with the price of the home and the contents that are inside the home. Everything has to be declared in a separate place in the insurance policy and some will check the home to verify that it meets the standards of an insurable home. Once this is done, an insurance agent will write you out a policy for your home that will become active once you pay the premium. Once the premium is paid, the policy is in effect and coverage begins immediately.
